PSG Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
